DIVE INTO OUR MISSION: CLARA Water AG is dedicated to providing a sustainable and affordable solution for safe drinking water in underserved regions, particularly in developing countries. Leveraging an energy and chemical-independent chlorination system, the company aims to address challenges related to water contamination and accessibility. The mission is aligned with global efforts to achieve universal access to safe drinking water by 2030 through innovative technologies, continuous research and development, and strategic partnerships in Switzerland, home of hundreds of international organisations. INNOVATION JOURNEY: The genesis of CLARA stems from Donato Patrissi's research for his master's thesis in Ethiopia, addressing water quality and disinfectant accessibility issues. Supported by SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland) and SAED Etiopia NGO, Donato collaborated with Ethiopian institutions to develop and deploy CLARA prototypes. After successful participation in various incubators in Ethiopia and Switzerland, including winning the "Innovation meets practice 2021" award by Innosuisse and the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit,, as well as undergoing Innosuisse Initial Coaching, the decision was made to transform the innovative concepts into business for impact. Founded in January 2023, CLARA Water AG aims to revolutionise water treatment with its energy- and chemical-independent chlorination system. CLARA's co-founders lead a dynamic team of experts collaborating with research institutions and private companies to drive innovation in water treatment. SOLVING WATER CHALLENGES: CLARA addresses the critical issue of water quality and disinfectant access in underserved regions where a significant urban and rural population lacks safe water. The company focuses on providing a sustainable chlorination system using locally available resources like table salt and solar energy to ensure continuous access to safe drinking water, overcoming economic and logistical barriers. DISCOVER CLARA: CLARA's revolutionary chlorination system, optimised for rural and humanitarian contexts, aims to provide a consistent and cost-effective supply of safe drinking water. The system utilises Plug&Play technology, in-situ production of sodium hypochlorite , and remote monitoring capabilities,allowing for the analysis of water quantity and quality data, maintenance planning, and quality assurance without the need for physical visits to remote areas. CHANGING THE GAME: Operating in a high-demand market with a pressing global need for sustainable water treatment technologies, CLARA initially targets Ethiopia, where partnerships have established a solid foundation. CLARA caters to NGOs, governmental bodies, and public services exploring diverse revenue streams, including water-as-a-service, franchising, micro-business enterprises and carbon credit offsetting.
